Recognised provenance
An origin internationally associated with Swiss watchmaking expertise and a clearly defined production framework.
SWISS MADE
Swiss Made is not a stylistic claim and it is not created simply by installing a Swiss movement. It identifies a watch whose development and production architecture satisfy the requirements established by Swiss law.
WHAT IT MEANS
Since the strengthened Swissness rules took effect, the Swiss origin of a watch is assessed on the finished product, not only on its movement. The designation therefore concerns how the watch is developed, assembled, controlled and economically produced.
The watch must contain a movement that itself meets the legal definition of a Swiss movement.
The movement must be cased in Switzerland as part of the finished watch.
The manufacturer must carry out the final inspection of the watch in Switzerland.
At least 60% of the manufacturing cost of the complete watch must be generated in Switzerland.
SWISS MOVEMENT ≠ SWISS MADE
A Swiss movement must itself satisfy specific requirements, including assembly and inspection in Switzerland, at least 60% of its manufacturing costs generated there, and at least 50% of the value of its constituent parts being of Swiss manufacture. But placing such a movement in a watch assembled elsewhere does not make the complete watch Swiss Made.
AMA IN SWITZERLAND
Through our Swiss production structure, AMA can follow the Swiss Made pathway from technical development and manufacturing coordination through casing-up, final inspection and the documentation required to establish the watch's eligibility to carry the Swiss designation.
This makes Swiss Made a production architecture that can be designed into the project from the beginning, rather than a label considered only at the end.
WHY SWISS MADE
Swiss Made is not simply a marking on the dial. When it fits the brief, it becomes a choice of positioning, supply chain and credibility designed into the project from the beginning.
An origin internationally associated with Swiss watchmaking expertise and a clearly defined production framework.
Swiss Made requirements structure development, manufacturing, casing-up and final inspection around precise criteria.
For the right project, Swiss origin can reinforce perceived value, credibility and long-term positioning.
It distinguishes a genuinely Swiss Made watch from a watch that simply contains a Swiss movement.
THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK
The use of “Switzerland”, “Swiss”, “Swiss Made” and equivalent indications for watches is governed by Swiss legislation on indications of source and by the Ordinance regulating the use of the name “Swiss” for watches (RS 232.119), revised in the context of the Swissness legislation.
This page is intended as a concise explanation of the production framework and is not legal advice. Eligibility must be assessed for each individual project and production configuration.
A SWISS MADE PROJECT
An automatic watchmaking project developed in a luxury context, where production origin, identity and positioning converge in the same object.
